Another great day at WV Camp! While the weather sent us indoors, it didn’t slow us down one bit.
We started the day learning about some of the legendary cryptids that call West Virginia home, including the Mothman, Bigfoot, the Flatwoods Monster, the Grafton Monster, and the Sheepsquatch.
Campers then put their imaginations to work by creating their own cryptids using craft materials. Each one came up with a unique backstory for their creature and shared it with the group. It was so much fun seeing everyone’s creativity come to life!
We also took on a fun team-building challenge that had everyone working together. Campers had to flip a towel completely over while making sure every team member stayed on it the entire time! It took communication, problem-solving, and teamwork, and it was exciting to watch each group encourage one another and celebrate their success.
The highlight of the day was a visit from Miss Nancy with the West Virginia Mine Wars Museum. Campers learned about our state’s coal mining history, examined authentic mining artifacts, and discovered the origin of the term “redneck.” They even received their own red bandanas and other fun goodies to take home.
A huge thank you to Miss Nancy for traveling all the way from Mingo County to spend the day with our campers and share her knowledge. We truly appreciate her making the trip!
We’re looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow as we welcome the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (WV DNR) to camp!
