What a fantastic first day of WV Camp!
Today was all about getting to know one another and introducing the mission we’ll share throughout the week. WV Camp is designed to help participants explore the rich culture and history of Appalachia while building friendships, teamwork, and confidence through fun, hands-on activities.
We kicked off the day by breaking the ice with games like Red Light, Green Light and Toss the Fugler, giving campers the chance to learn everyone’s names and shake off those first-day jitters.
Next, campers put their creativity and teamwork to the test by competing to build the tallest self-supporting structure using only spaghetti noodles and mini marshmallows. It was amazing to see the different ideas each team came up with!
After lunch, campers designed and decorated their own field journals, which they’ll use throughout the week to record their adventures and discoveries. We wrapped up the day with a nature hike through Ritter Park, taking in some of the natural beauty that makes West Virginia such a special place to call home.
We can’t wait for Day 2, when we’ll welcome the WV Mine Wars Museum for a special presentation. Stay tuned for more camp highlights!
