This might just be our favorite egg hunt of all. Greater Huntington Park & Recreation District has been honored to partner with Developmental Therapy Center for several years to host the Egg-Citing Egg Hunt.
The purpose of this special event is to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to participate in an adaptive egg hunt designed with their needs in mind. Activities include a hunt with beeping eggs for children with visual impairments, a magnetic pole egg hunt for those with mobility challenges, and an indoor, controlled, sensory-friendly hunt for children with sensory sensitivities. The evening concludes with a traditional hunt open to all participants, including siblings.
This year, we were especially grateful to have Melanie Shafer return as our emcee, bringing her energy, enthusiasm, and even a bit of impromptu karaoke! We also appreciated the support of her son’s business, Jack & The Bean Coffee, whose mission is to increase employment opportunities for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
Guests also enjoyed a wide variety of activities and attractions, including Itty Bitty Therapy Horses, Huntington Police & Fire, Peanut the Clown, inflatables, crafts, face painting, tattoos, sensory bins, and of course, visits from Mr. & Mrs. Cottontail and their friend, the Spring Chicken.
We are grateful to everyone who joined us on such a beautiful evening. It feels especially meaningful that this event takes place at the site of the St. Cloud Commons All-Inclusive Playground & Splash Pad, a perfect reminder that play truly has no limits.
A special thank you to the DTC staff for the invaluable work they do in our community, the GHPRD Maintenance Team for handling so much of the behind-the-scenes effort, and the countless volunteers who show up each year ready to lend a hand.
Happy Easter!
